The VRE Landscape Study project is one of several studies commissioned by the UK Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) to research aspects of on-line research collaboration. The focus of our study is to scope developments in virtual research communities around the world and set them in relation to the activities in the UK. A particular focus is to scope the collaborative practices of researchers in Virtual Research Environments (VREs).

The study aims to stimulate debate about the nature of research collaboration facilitated by Virtual Research Environments and to assist the JISC to build both services and strategies for supporting the community.

The project is taken forward by the Centre for e-Research at King’s College London and the Oxford e-Research Centre at the University of Oxford. It is funded by the JISC.

The project ended in December 2009.

The Virtual Research Environment Collaborative Landscape report can be downloaded from the JISC website.
